Before the Problem Arrives

The latest edition of MERCI News at Swarna Hutama Loka explores why good teams prepare before problems arrive, with lessons on forecasting, leadership and purposeful work. No one in a design studio can predict every change. Targets shift, constraints surface late, and what looks settled on Monday may look different by Friday. The 11 September 2026 edition of MERCI News, the internal newsletter of Swarna Hutama Loka, starts from that uncertainty and asks a practical question: if we can't predict the future, how do we prepare for it?

Leading without knowing everything

The edition's Leadership Corner argues that a leader's role is not to foresee every obstacle but to help the team build the habit of looking a few steps ahead. When a target is set, the question goes beyond what needs to be finished. It extends to what might get in the way, what needs to be ready, and what the team will do if conditions change. Forecasting also helps leaders use time and manpower more wisely. A clear view of progress, team capacity, pending work and upcoming needs allows decisions to be made earlier, before a task becomes urgent. The earlier a situation is visible, the more room the team has to find solutions without compromising quality.

Preparation as a daily habit

A companion piece brings the same thinking into everyday practice. Forecasting, it suggests, is not about guessing the future perfectly. It is about seeing possibilities early enough to act before a risk becomes a problem. Listing pending work and next steps, scheduling before a task begins, and understanding where a project currently stands are all simple forms of anticipation. Mature work solves today's problem while considering what may come after it.

Purpose before process

Another insight comes from a team discussion. The lesson is straightforward: before starting any task, understand which stage the work is in and what that stage actually requires. That understanding shapes how work is planned, how much detail is needed, when QC takes place and how time is allocated. Without it, a team can work hard and produce a great deal, yet still miss what the project truly needs.

A lighter note

Balancing the reflection is the MERCI Horoscope, a playful reading of each sign's work energy for the week, from the Initiator to the Detail Guardian. The edition also shares a glimpse of BerARTi dengan MERCI, part of Swarna Hutama Loka's 16th anniversary.

As the newsletter reminds its readers, the stars can't finish your deadline. Preparation, however, can give the team a head start.
